Veikkaus lands former Kindred exec Reimblad as sports betting VP

Finland’s Veikkaus has appointed Andreas Reimblad, formerly director of sportsbook at Kindred Group, as its new vice-president of sports betting.

Veikkaus confirmed the news in a LinkedIn post and Reimblad begins his new role today (5 July). He joins having only left Kindred last month following 12 years with the business.

Reimblad spent three and a half years as director of sportsbook at Kindred. Prior to this, he held a number of development roles for the vertical. Reimblad also had a short spell at IGT as product manager for betting and bingo, sandwiched by another stint at Kindred in the Unibet days.

Racecourse Media Group names Dowding as chief betting officer

Racecourse Media Group (RMG) has announced the appointment of Ben Dowding to the new role of chief betting officer.

Dowding takes up the position following the merger of the organisation’s domestic and international betting teams. He was previously director of betting at Racecourse Media Group.

RMG took the decision to combine its teams as more bookmakers are approaching rights acquisition on a global basis. Dowding will now oversee the enlarged team, taking on the new role with immediate effect.

Dowding is a long-serving member of the RMG team having joined the business in March 2013 as head of partnerships. He went on to become head of B2B and then director of betting, holding the latter role for more than six years.

Prior to his time with RMG, Dowding worked for The Jockey Club. Here, he spent time as sponsorship manager and regional sponsorship manager.

STS appoints new CEO and chair following Entain CEE buy-out

STS has announced a management reshuffle with a new CEO and chairman appointed in the wake of its acquisition by Entain CEE.

Radim Haluza will become the Polish sports betting operator’s new chief executive, while also remaining as CEO of Entain CEE. Long-serving STS chief executive Mateusz Juroszek switches from that role to become chairman of the supervisory board.

The changes come four months after Entain CEE acquired STS in a £750m deal. Entain CEE is a joint venture between Entain, investment management company Emma Capital and the Juroszek Family.

UK and Irish pool operator UK Tote Group has hired two new CCOs to support its growth strategy and expand its international and domestic networks.

Jon Knapman joins Tote Group as chief commercial officer of the group’s international B2B business. With its recent expansion into US, South African and Hong Kong markets, the international business has seen substantial growth.

ARC confirms departure of chairman Thorpe

British racecourse operator Arena Racing Company (ARC) has announced that David Thorpe is to step down as its chairman from 30 April.

Thorpe has served in the role since April 2014, prior to which he was chairman of both the Racecourse Association and Arena Leisure.

He also served on the boards of the Horserace Betting Levy Board and British Horseracing Authority.

Genius Sports has announced the appointments of Kenneth J Kay and Michael Messara to its board of directors.

Their appointments will take effect on 8 March.

Kay has been appointed as an independent director of the board. He will also accept the role of chair of the audit committee – succeeding Harry You – and will serve as a member of the board’s nominating and corporate governance committee.

Most recently, Kay held the role of CFO at MGM Holdings. He also held CFO roles with a number of companies, including Dole Food Company, CB Richard Ellis Group Inc and Las Vegas Sands Corporation. MyRacehorse, a micro-share horse racing syndicate, has hired ex-Betfair head of racing Will De Nardo to lead on its UK and Ireland marketing efforts.

De Nardo has been appointed as MyRacehorse’s UK and Ireland marketing director and global gaming advisor.

James Arnold appointed CEO of The Football Pools

Industry executive James Arnold has been appointed chief executive of iconic British betting business The Football Pools.

Arnold began his new role earlier this month, at the start of the business’ centenary year.

He joins from Noel Hayden’s LiveScore Group, which runs the Virgin Bet and LiveScore Bet sports betting brands, where he spent three years first as chief operating officer, then chief commercial officer.

Earlier in his career, Arnold worked for the likes of Betway, Boylesports and SportingBet, holding a number of marketing and executive roles during his tenure with each operator.

Conor Grant to join Racecourse Media Group as chairman

Former Flutter UK and Ireland CEO Conor Grant has been appointed as the incoming chairman of Racecourse Media Group (RMG).

Grant will initially join as a non-executive director, beginning 1 April 2023, and will succeed chairman Roger Lewis on 1 October 2023. Lewis first joined the RMG board in 2012 and was appointed as chairman in 2019.

Grant has 24 years of experience in the industry, and was most recently chief executive for Flutter UK and Ireland. Before this, he was the chief operating officer of Sky Betting and Gaming.

Former PlayUp US chief executive Laila Mintas has co-founded a new venture, PlayEngine, and joined as chief executive.

The new business is a “microservices-based” B2B sports betting and igaming platform. The business said that it will “provide its customers with a tailor-made, individual solution that is reliable, scalable, fast and secure”.

Its sportsbook offering will allow clients to accept payments from cryptocurrency as well as fiat money and will include a “travelling wallet” to allow players to use the same wallet in different jurisdictions.

Fanatics hires Brandt Iden as VP of government affairs

Fanatics Betting and Gaming has hired former Michigan legislator Brandt Iden as its new vice-president of government affairs, as the business edges closer to launching its betting product.

Iden was elected to the Michigan House of Representatives in 2014, until 2020 when he reached the state term limit. During this time he spearheaded the efforts to legalise both sports betting and online casino gaming in the state.
